Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, Western Australia Police
Two men have been charged, and 33kg of Methylamphetamine seized, after a joint operation
conducted by the Western Australia Police Force’s Meth Enforcement Taskforce and the
Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.
On Saturday afternoon, 4 August 2018, officers from both agencies detained two men who
had travelled to Perth on the Indian Pacific Train. They were arrested as they departed the
East Perth Train Station.
It will be alleged a search of their luggage located total of 33kg of Methylamphetamine and
other items of interest.
A 25 year old man from New South Wales has been charged with:
- Possessed a trafficable quantity of Methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply
- Give false personal details to police.
A 27 year old man from Victoria has been charged with:
- Possessed a trafficable quantity of Methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply
- Fail to comply with request to give police personal details.
Both men were refused bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court yesterday, Sunday
5 August 2018. They are both next due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on
Wednesday 22 August 2018.
Detective Superintendent Kim Massam from the Serious and Organised Crime Division said
the seizure of the drugs, which are estimated to be worth $33 million, represents the removal
of about 330,000 hits of the drug from the community.
“The Western Australia Police Force and the Australian
Criminal Intelligence Commission continue to target those
drug traffickers who have no regard for the harm they cause in
the community. These drugs destroy lives and destroy
families.”
