Here at the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), the health and wellbeing of our employees is a top priority, both physically and psychologically. We have in-house psychologists who provide a range of services to promote the mental health of our employees, including wellbeing assessments for staff in high-risk roles and those selected for international deployments.
Across our agency, there are a number of operational and non-operational roles which expose staff to stressors or explicit materials which have the potential to compromise their mental health and wellbeing, as well as their capacity to function effectively in critical roles. These are designated as high-risk roles and employees in these roles are required to participate in a regular wellbeing assessment conducted by our organisational psychologists.
ACIC psychologists also work alongside our operational staff (investigators, examiners and analysts) providing insights into the personality, behaviour, risks, and engagement strategies of their targets. This important capability and insight contributes to the ACIC’s mission of tackling serious and organised crime.
In addition to the organisational psychologists, the ACIC has a dedicated in-house staff psychologist that complements the agency’s Employee Assistance Program. The Staff Psychologist is available to support all staff members as well as provide advice to management. We asked the Staff Psychologist to tell us a little bit more about their role.
Staff Psychologist: “This role involves identifying common themes and issues affecting staff and considering strategies to address them.
We want to ensure all staff are able to access support from a counsellor who understands the nature and demands of our operating environment and the sensitive nature of our work, beyond our longstanding employee assistance program.
I’m keen to explore how individuals and organisations can collaborate to achieve optimal outcomes. Having these resources available to all staff is part of a broader effort to make the ACIC a stimulating and fulfilling place to work.”
The ACIC offers a diverse range of intelligence and corporate roles. Regardless of role or position, we are dedicated to cultivating a workplace environment where everyone feels respected, valued and empowered, and supported to bring their whole self to work. We encourage you to monitor our careers page regularly for ACIC employment opportunities.
