Integrity

The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) demands a high standard of conduct and integrity from all of our employees. ACIC staff must uphold the Australian Public Service (APS) Values and comply with the APS Code of ConductPublic Service Act 1999

Staff who are seconded to or work with our agency under task force arrangements are usually also subject to their home agencies’ ‘professional standards’ arrangements  subject to agreements between their agency and the ACIC.

If you are aware of misconductfraudulent or corrupt activity by any ACIC staff, including contractors, secondees or task force members, please notify our Integrity Assurance Team by emailing to integrity.assurance@acic.gov.au.

Although we prefer to receive such reports by email, telephone contact is also acceptable. Please phone 02 6243 6666 and ask to speak to the Integrity Assurance Team, who will aim to keep you informed of the progress and outcome of your complaint.

Our Integrity Assurance Team is responsible for receiving, assessing and investigating of complaints relating to allegations of:

  • misconduct (staff members)
  • fraud committed within or against the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (staff members, external parties)
  • corruption issues (former and current Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission staff).

Any person can provide information. In accordance with subsection 15 (3) of the Public Service Act, the ACIC is required to follow the Procedures for determining breaches of the Code of Conduct and for determining sanction when investigating an allegation.

Minor complaints relating to behaviour (for example, rudeness) may be actioned by managers within the workplace.

The ACIC oversight body is the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). NACC is an independent and proactive body established by the Commonwealth to detect and prevent serious or systemic corruption in the public sector.

We report any complaint regarding corrupt activity by our staff to NACC for appropriate action.

If you are not satisfied with the way our Integrity Assurance Team handles your complaint you can write to the Manager Integrity and Security, at the address below, who can initiate a review of your complaint.

You may also contact the Commonwealth Ombudsman. The Ombudsman will consider what, if any, further action is required. If the Ombudsman considers that we have made a mistake or acted wrongly, the Ombudsman can recommend that we provide a solution or a remedy.

It is an offence under the Criminal Code Act 1995 to knowingly provide false or misleading information.
