Report 9 of the National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program

The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) has commissioned The University of Queensland, and through it the University of South Australia, to undertake the data collection and analysis that underpins the report.

The ninth report of that National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program provides longer-term insights into drug consumption as the program concludes its third year, and provides a comprehensive, national picture of drug consumption in Australia.

The report covers around 57 per cent of the population, which equates to about 13.3 million people. Fifty-eight wastewater treatment plants across Australia participated in the August 2019 collection, which monitored the consumption of 13 substances.

To maintain treatment plant confidentiality, each site was allocated a unique code and site names are not included.
